NBC launches ‘Big Picture’ strategy to drive Nigeria’s digital switch-over

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has unveiled a new strategy tagged “The Big Picture” as part of renewed efforts to fast-track Nigeria’s long-awaited Digital Switch-Over (DSO) process.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening the country’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, improving content distribution, enhancing picture and sound quality, and expanding opportunities within Nigeria’s media and creative industries.

Speaking during the unveiling, NBC officials described the strategy as a comprehensive roadmap designed to address existing challenges slowing down the digital migration process while ensuring broader access to modern broadcasting technology across the country.

According to the Commission, the “Big Picture” initiative will focus on increasing public awareness, improving infrastructure deployment, boosting local content development, and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders in the broadcasting sector.

The NBC noted that digital broadcasting offers several benefits, including clearer transmission, more channels, efficient spectrum usage, and better viewing experiences for audiences nationwide.

Officials also stressed that the transition would create new economic opportunities for content creators, broadcasters, advertisers, and technology providers, while positioning Nigeria to align with global broadcasting standards.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to completing the digital migration process and urged industry players, state governments, and private investors to support the implementation of the initiative.

Stakeholders at the event described the strategy as a significant step toward modernising Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape and improving access to information and entertainment in the digital era.

The Digital Switch-Over programme has remained a key national project aimed at transforming the broadcasting sector and unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s digital economy.
