Gov Makinde calls for urgent creation of state police to tackle insecurity

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has urged the Federal Government to fast-track the establishment of state police as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and combat rising criminal activities across the country.

Speaking during the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship and legislative primaries in Ibadan, Makinde stressed that state police would enhance local intelligence gathering and enable quicker responses to security threats within states.

He also called on the Federal Government to support state Houses of Assembly in accelerating the legislative process required to establish the framework for state policing.

The governor reassured families of abducted students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State that efforts were ongoing to secure their safe return, adding that security remains a top priority of his administration.

Makinde further thanked residents of Oyo State for their continued support over the past seven years and urged them to extend the same backing to APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
