American rapper and music producer Kanye West, popularly known as “Ye,” has been granted approval to hold two concerts in the Netherlands this June despite ongoing backlash over his past antisemitic remarks and controversial public statements.
Authorities in the Dutch city of Arnhem confirmed that permits have been issued for the concerts scheduled for June 6 and June 8, with Mayor Ahmed Marcouch acknowledging the artist’s previous “reprehensible statements” while stating there were no legal grounds to block the performances.
The decision comes after several European venues and governments either cancelled or opposed West’s planned shows due to concerns over comments widely condemned as antisemitic and supportive of Nazi ideology.
Despite pressure from members of the Dutch parliament to deny him entry, Dutch immigration authorities stated that legal assessments did not justify a ban.
Kanye West has previously faced cancellations in the UK, France, Poland, and Switzerland over similar controversies linked to his public remarks and actions.
The rapper has denied being antisemitic, attributing some of his behaviour to bipolar disorder and insisting he does not support Nazism.
