Former senator and prominent politician, Senator Kabiru Marafa, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Marafa clinched the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement after emerging as the sole aspirant for the position during the party’s governorship primary held in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
Announcing the result, chairman of the party’s election committee, Aminu Jelani, confirmed that the former lawmaker was unanimously adopted by party stakeholders and delegates.
Speaking after his emergence, Marafa thanked members of the party for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to prioritise transparency, accountability, and good governance if elected governor.
The former senator described corruption as one of the major challenges confronting Zamfara State, promising to ensure prudent management of public resources and equitable distribution of wealth across all communities.
He also assured residents that his administration would focus on improving security, strengthening governance structures, and enhancing the welfare of citizens throughout the state.
Marafa previously served as the Zamfara State campaign coordinator for the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign during the 2023 elections.
Meanwhile, the NDC also unveiled candidates for all 34 elective positions across Zamfara State as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 polls.
In Kano State, former governor and Kwankwasiyya movement leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also announced the emergence of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the party’s governorship candidate for Kano.
