Suspected bandits have abducted former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), and his wife along the Matazu Road in Katsina State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday morning while the retired military officer and his wife were travelling in a red Peugeot 504 saloon car. According to security sources, armed assailants intercepted the vehicle, forcefully abducted the couple, and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
Sources disclosed that the vehicle’s driver managed to escape during the attack despite sustaining gunshot injuries. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
“The former Director of Defence Information and his wife were ambushed by armed men along the route. The driver escaped with gunshot wounds and is undergoing treatment,” a source familiar with the incident said.
Following the abduction, security agencies have reportedly launched search-and-rescue operations and deployed intelligence assets to track down the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, military authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
