Babachir David Lawal Quits ADC, Alleges Irregularities in Party Primaries

Babachir David Lawal has reportedly resigned from the African Democratic Congress, accusing the party’s recently concluded primaries of being heavily manipulated and lacking credibility.

In a strongly worded statement, Lawal alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread irregularities, including the imposition of preferred candidates and the alteration of results in favour of certain interests within the party leadership. He described the process as a “charade” and said it no longer reflected democratic principles.

He further stated that his decision to leave was based on his unwillingness to be associated with what he described as a flawed internal system ahead of the 2027 general elections. Lawal also expressed concerns about the direction of opposition politics and the credibility of leadership emerging from the party’s processes.

The development adds to ongoing tensions within opposition ranks as political realignments continue ahead of the next election cycle.
