FUTO Shuts Down for Fumigation Amid Protest Over Student’s Death

The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has directed students to proceed on a two-week break to allow for hostel fumigation and renovation, with academic activities set to resume on June 15.

The development comes amid protests over the death of a first-year Cyber Security student, who allegedly died after being tortured by members of the university’s Man O’ War unit over a theft allegation. The Student Union Government has suspended academic activities and demanded transparency, accountability, and justice, while police have arrested three suspects and commenced investigations.
