The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and related crimes, including the interception of 380 rounds of military-grade ammunition and the seizure of more than 1.2 tonnes of cannabis in Kaduna State.

According to the agency, operatives on patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway at Jere intercepted a suspect identified as Sunusi Musa, who was allegedly transporting 380 rounds of 7.62mm military-grade ammunition destined for Katsina State. The suspect and the recovered ammunition have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.

In a separate operation in Kaduna, NDLEA officers arrested a couple, Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday, alongside another suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, following the recovery of 100 jumbo bags of cannabis weighing 1,246 kilograms from a residence in the Gonin Gora area.

The agency also uncovered consignments of illicit drugs concealed inside water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos. Recovered substances included three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA, popularly known as ecstasy.

Further operations in Niger State led to the seizure of 457 kilograms of cannabis from a warehouse in Bosso Local Government Area, while a suspect, Godwin Zakka, was arrested in connection with the discovery.

In Enugu State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a commercial vehicle along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway and recovered 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine, and 200 grams of bromazepam. One suspect was arrested during the operation.

The agency said it remains committed to combating drug trafficking and abuse nationwide through enforcement actions and sustained public awareness campaigns. NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended officers involved in the successful operations and urged continued vigilance in the fight against illicit drugs.
