Tobi Amusan shatters Rabat Record, clinches first Diamond League victory of 2026

Nigeria’s sprint hurdling queen, Tobi Amusan, delivered a commanding performance at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco, securing her first victory of the 2026 season and breaking her own meeting record in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The 29-year-old clocked an impressive 12.28 seconds to cross the finish line ahead of a strong field, equalling her season’s best and reinforcing her status as one of the world’s leading hurdlers. Her winning time eclipsed the previous meeting record of 12.45 seconds, which she had set at the same venue in 2025.

Bahamian athlete Devynne Charlton finished second in 12.40 seconds, while the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser claimed third place with a time of 12.47 seconds.

The victory marks a major breakthrough in Amusan’s 2026 Diamond League campaign after consecutive podium finishes in China. She placed third in Shanghai and second in Xiamen, where she also recorded a season-best 12.28 seconds.

Amusan’s latest triumph highlights her steady return to peak form ahead of a packed international season. The performance ranks among the fastest times in the world this year and stands as the fourth-fastest run of her career.

The former world champion has enjoyed a strong outdoor season so far, having also claimed gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Championships in Accra. Her Rabat success provides further momentum as she prepares for upcoming global competitions and title-defence campaigns later in the year.
