The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced a strategic partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) aimed at ensuring credible, transparent, and violence-free elections in 2027.
The collaboration was highlighted during a courtesy visit by the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on June 9, 2026.
According to the EFCC, the meeting provided an opportunity for both agencies to discuss areas of cooperation as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections. A major focus of the discussions was strengthening efforts to combat vote-buying and vote-selling, which have remained key concerns in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Acting Zonal Director and Deputy Commander of the EFCC, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, assured the electoral commission of the agency’s continued support in promoting electoral integrity and enforcing laws against financial crimes linked to elections.
The anti-graft agency reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with INEC and other stakeholders to safeguard the credibility of future elections.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Edo State Branch, also visited the EFCC’s Benin office to explore areas of collaboration. The institute noted that the fight against economic and financial crimes often intersects with banking operations and financial institutions.
The renewed partnership between EFCC and INEC is expected to strengthen efforts to curb electoral malpractice and enhance public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 polls.
