The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Abdulazeez Adediran (Jandor), has stated that Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has not formally declared interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Jandor also dismissed speculation that President Bola Ahmed Tinubuhas endorsed any aspirant for the Lagos governorship race under the All Progressives Congress.
According to him, neither the party nor the presidency has communicated any endorsement or consensus arrangement, stressing that the APC has indicated it will conduct direct primaries to choose its candidate.
He noted that while several prominent figures are being linked to the 2027 race, including current and former top officials, no formal declarations or endorsements have been made.
Jandor further revealed that he has met with President Tinubu in the past, but said the meeting did not include any promise or discouragement regarding his political ambition.
He maintained that he remains confident in his aspirations and would abide by party decisions if he does not secure the ticket, adding that internal democracy within the APC will ultimately determine the flag bearer.
The 2027 Lagos governorship race is already generating interest as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu nears the end of his tenure, with political stakeholders and party structures expected to play key roles in the succession process.
