Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on Nigerians to pair their prayers with active citizenship, hard work, and a shared dedication to shaping a unified and prosperous nation.
His call came on Sunday during a special Independence Thanksgiving Service marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Lagos. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the nation’s past hurdles while celebrating the enduring resilience of its people as a primary strength.
Speaking under the theme “A Nation of Hope, Healing and Revival,” the Governor noted that the anniversary presents a fresh opportunity to reflect and renew the collective drive toward national development. He pointed to Nigeria’s rich natural resources and dynamic young population as key engines for future growth.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized Lagos State’s role in modeling progress through purposeful investments in transportation, healthcare, education, security, enterprise development, and environmental sustainability. He asserted that true national renewal requires active participation from all sectors—including faith institutions and private citizens—demanding that spiritual faith be supported by integrity, civic duty, and compassion.
Guest preacher Pastor Isaac Abiara reinforced the Governor’s message by appealing for truthfulness, mutual love, and shared responsibility among citizens, religious leaders, and government officials to rebuild the nation’s foundation.
