Eight people have been killed after a chartered Cessna 441 operated by Security Aviation crashed near Cape Newenham Airport in western Alaska.
The aircraft went down at about 12:15 p.m. on August 20, 2026, after departing Anchorage for the remote site, located roughly 450 miles southwest of the city.
There were eight people on board, including two pilots and six passengers. The aircraft was carrying personnel to a U.S. Air Force long-range radar site under a civilian contract.
Search and rescue teams located the crash site and confirmed that there were no survivors.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, with investigators yet to determine what led to the aircraft going down.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Investigators are expected to examine the aircraft, flight data, weather conditions and other factors that could have contributed to the accident.
Officials described the incident as a devastating loss as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
