The Ondo State Government, in collaboration with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission and the Afenifere socio-political group, is set to host the Federal Government/South-West Citizen–Government Engagement Summit in Akure, the state capital.
The two-day summit, themed “Strengthening Democracy Through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future,” will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, October 29–30, 2025, at the International Conference Centre (The Dome), Akure.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the summit aims to provide a robust platform for citizens and government to engage in constructive dialogue on critical developmental issues affecting the South-West region.
The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, confirmed that preparations have been concluded to host delegates from the six South-West states.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will serve as the Chief Host, while the event will attract South-West Governors, Ministers and federal appointees of Yoruba origin, National Assembly members, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, private sector representatives, youth and women groups, and other regional stakeholders.
The summit will feature six thematic sessions focusing on key policy areas:
- Fiscal Reforms and National Planning
- Economic Development and Job Creation
- Social Services and Social Development
- Infrastructure and Transportation
- Human Capital Development
- Security and Governance
Organisers said the engagement is expected to enhance citizen participation, strengthen government accountability, and advance inclusive and sustainable development across the South-West region.
