The Nigeria Police Force has intensified aerial surveillance operations across Anambra State amid the ongoing governorship election taking place in 5,718 polling units.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the exercise is part of a proactive security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, safe, and transparent electoral process.
According to Ikenga, the aerial patrols are being carried out in coordination with ground troops, marine units, and tactical teams strategically deployed across the state.
“The air surveillance teams are mandated to monitor movement patterns, detect suspicious gatherings, and provide real-time intelligence support to ground commanders for swift operational response,” he stated.
The police spokesman reaffirmed the Force’s neutrality and professionalism, emphasizing its commitment to protecting voters, electoral officials, observers, and materials throughout the election.
“The public is encouraged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel performing their lawful duties,” Ikenga added.
He further assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard the integrity of the ballot and ensure that every eligible voter exercises their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
Reports from across the state indicate that voting commenced peacefully in several wards as the election progressed.
