Ogere axis locked down after chemical-laden truck overturns

Traffic movement along the Ogere axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has been severely disrupted following an accident involving a container-laden truck transporting chemicals.

The incident occurred on the inbound lane, just before the Ogere Bridge, when the truck reportedly suffered a mechanical failure, resulting in brake failure and loss of control. The vehicle subsequently toppled onto its side, blocking the entire inbound carriageway.

Emergency response teams from the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigeria Police are already on ground, working to manage the situation. Traffic is being redirected while efforts are underway to evacuate the fallen container using a crane.

Motorists already caught in the congestion have been advised to remain patient as officials create a narrow passage to ease vehicular movement. Meanwhile, drivers heading from Lagos towards Ibadan are strongly encouraged to use an alternative route via the Sagamu Interchange–Iperu–Saapade corridor, reconnecting with the expressway at the Saapade axis.

TRACE operatives have been strategically deployed along the diversion points at Sagamu Interchange, Iperu, and Saapade to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain order.

Authorities have expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the incident and assured road users that normal traffic flow will be restored as soon as the evacuation process is completed.
