President Tinubu Arrives in Abu Dhabi for 2026 Sustainability Summit

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to participate in the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2026) Summit.

The President arrived at about 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday and was received by Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Tinubu’s participation follows an invitation from the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to attend the weeklong summit, which brings together global leaders from government, business and civil society to shape the future of sustainable development.

The 2026 summit is themed “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.” According to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the event will connect ambition with action across innovation, finance and people, while showcasing pathways for advancing sustainable development worldwide.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is an annual global platform that mobilises leaders to drive progress on sustainability, climate action and economic transformation.

President Tinubu’s arrival in Abu Dhabi comes after a series of domestic and international engagements. He had departed Abuja on December 23 for a three-state visit to Borno, Bauchi and Lagos States.

In Borno State, the President commissioned projects executed by the state government under Governor Babagana Zulum and the Federal Government. He also attended the wedding ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

From Maiduguri, President Tinubu travelled to Bauchi State to commiserate with the state government and the family of the late Islamic scholar and Tijjaniyya leader, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, who died on November 27.

The President later proceeded to Lagos, where he spent the end-of-year holidays and attended the Eyo Festival on December 27 as guest of honour. On December 28, he departed Lagos for Europe to continue his end-of-year break before arriving in Abu Dhabi for the sustainability summit.
