The Rivers State Government has approved the recruitment of 5,000 teachers as part of its efforts to strengthen the education sector and improve service delivery across the state.
The decision, made during the second meeting of the Rivers State Executive Council in 2026, was presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, with Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma-Odu also in attendance.
Key Details:
- Targeted Deployment: 3,000 teachers will be deployed to basic and primary schools, while 2,000 will be assigned to post-primary institutions.
- Focus on Quality Education: The recruitment aims to enhance the quality of education in the state, a key priority for the current administration.
- Total Employment Growth: With this approval, the Fubara-led administration has employed approximately 9,500 people across various sectors, including the health sector, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, and the Universal Basic Education program.
- Commitment to Transparency: The recruitment process will be transparent and merit-based, ensuring that only qualified candidates are selected.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Honor Sirawoo, highlighted that the government’s commitment is driven by service delivery to the people rather than seeking publicity. Additionally, the Commissioner for Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment, Chisom Gbali, noted that the approval would significantly benefit his ministry.
This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to improving public service, with education being a central focus for the administration.
