Plateau CAN chairman dies after brief illness

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Plateau State Chapter, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, has passed away.

Fr. Lubo reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday at a hospital in Jos, following a brief illness that developed after he was involved in an accident the previous week.

Multiple sources in Jos confirmed the news of his death to our correspondent on Sunday.

His passing was further affirmed in an official condolence message issued by the Chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, Daniel Gyang.

In a statement titled Obituary Announcement,” the Archdiocese extended sympathies to Fr. Lubo’s immediate family, the Plateau State chapter of CAN, and members of the clergy and religious community.

The statement read:
“With deep sorrow, but in full submission to the will of God, we announce the passing into eternal glory of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, who died in the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025.”

“The Archbishop extends his heartfelt condolences to Fr. Lubo’s family, the Plateau State CAN leadership, the presbyterium of the Archdiocese of Jos, parishioners of St. William’s Parish, Zawan — where he served as Parish Priest and Dean — as well as to all religious and lay faithful.”

“May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”
