President Bola Tinubu has approved the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to coordinate a befitting state burial for former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on July 13 at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
Announcing the decision in Abuja on Monday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the committee will work closely with the Katsina State Government and Buhari’s family to ensure a dignified burial.
The committee will be chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. Members include the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Planning, Defence, Information, Works, Interior, FCT, Housing, Health, and Culture. Also part of the team are the National Security Adviser, the IGP, DSS DG, Chief of Defence Staff, and senior presidential aides.
The General Services Office will serve as the committee’s secretariat.
In line with the national mourning directive, President Tinubu has ordered all MDAs and Nigerian missions abroad to open condolence registers for public tributes.
