The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is currently holding a meeting with retired police officers protesting poor welfare conditions and demanding their removal from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The meeting, taking place at the Peacekeeping Hall of the Force Headquarters in Abuja, follows a protest on Monday where elderly retirees marched to the National Assembly and later to the police headquarters, braving the rain while holding placards and chanting.
Responding to their demands, Egbetokun assured the retirees that their welfare is a top priority. However, he noted that exiting the CPS is not an immediate process. He urged the protest leaders to avoid spreading misinformation, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to its retired officers.
