Niger Senator sponsors 200 students to study in India, China

On Monday, 200 students from the Niger East Senatorial District departed Abuja for India and China under the Senator Mohammed Sani Musa International Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme.

During a send-off ceremony, Senator Musa — represented by his wife, Hajia Saadatu Sani Musa — explained that the initiative was designed to close educational gaps and develop a generation of globally competitive professionals.

“This is more than just sending young minds abroad; it’s about nurturing future thinkers, builders, and innovators who will return equipped to drive transformation in Niger East and across Nigeria,” she said in a statement shared via X and reported by PUNCH Online.

Hajia Saadatu urged the students to remain focused and disciplined throughout their studies abroad.

“Without discipline, opportunity is lost. Without effort, talent goes to waste,” she said. “You are going as ambassadors of Niger East, guided by the values of respect, integrity, and a strong sense of community. Our future must be better than today — and it begins with educating our children.”

Parents and community leaders hailed the program as groundbreaking, describing it as a life-changing opportunity.

“For us, this is more than a scholarship — it’s a lifeline, a way out of poverty, and a gateway to a brighter future,” said Malam Abdullahi, the father of one of the beneficiaries.

Traditional and religious leaders also commended Senator Musa for fulfilling his campaign promises by creating real, impactful opportunities.

The students will pursue degrees in fields such as medicine, engineering, technology, and management sciences at universities across India and China. In addition to academic training, the program aims to promote cross-cultural experiences and leadership development.
