The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics and Privileges has recommended a three-month suspension for Hon. Bernard Udemezue, member representing Ayamelum Constituency, over alleged unparliamentary conduct and abuse of legislative privileges.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Ikenga Ofodeme, indicted Udemezue—elected on the platform of the PDP—for inciting social media comments, misuse of office, and ignoring a formal invitation to defend himself. He reportedly mocked the process and shared the invitation on his WhatsApp status.
The committee’s report cited multiple petitions accusing him of intimidation, threats to life, and interference in legal matters. It also alleged that he used his former position as Committee Chairman on Homeland and Boundary Affairs to secure the release of suspected cultists.
The committee urged that Udemezue be suspended without pay for three months, issue a public apology, and undergo compulsory training on parliamentary ethics.
