The General Hospital in Badagry, Lagos, has announced that its Mother and Child Care Centre recorded zero maternal deaths between May and July 2025—a major milestone in the facility’s obstetric care.
The Lagos State Government shared the update on its official social media platforms on Friday.
Dr. Akinwunmi Akinyemi, Director of Clinical Services and Training and Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, presented the report to the hospital’s management, describing the achievement as a result of strong collaboration among the entire medical team.
“It is with great joy and gratitude to God that I share the news: we recorded no maternal deaths over the past three months,” he said.
“This success is thanks to the tireless dedication of everyone in the department, as well as the support and cooperation of our nurses, lab technicians, pharmacists, records personnel, and support staff.”
He also acknowledged the critical backing of the hospital’s leadership, emphasizing that their support made the achievement possible.
Dr. Akinyemi encouraged staff to maintain the momentum, noting that the progress contributes meaningfully to lowering maternal mortality rates in both Badagry Local Government and Lagos State.
Welcoming the news, the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Olatunde Bakare, expressed his appreciation and praised the obstetrics team for ensuring safe deliveries during the three months.
“Congratulations to everyone. We thank God for His enduring mercy. Please continue the great work,” Bakare said.
