NABTEB releases 2025 NBC/NTC results, records improved performance

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has officially released the results of the 2025 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, showing notable improvement in candidates’ performance, especially in mathematics.

Announcing the results in Abuja on Thursday, NABTEB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, revealed that 92,875 candidates registered for the examinations, which were conducted in 1,892 centres across the country.

This marks a 37.08% increase in enrolment compared to 2024, while the number of centres rose by 10.77%.

According to Mohammed, candidates were examined in:

  • 16 Engineering Trades
  • 7 Construction Trades
  • 9 Miscellaneous Trades
  • 4 Business Trades
  • 16 General Education Subjects

Out of the total registered, 89,621 candidates had their results released. Of these, 61,104 candidates (68.18%) obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. Meanwhile, 74,633 candidates (83.28%) earned five credits or more with or without English and mathematics.

Dr. Mohammed noted a higher pass rate in mathematics compared to the previous year, though English Language recorded a slight decline. Specifically:

  • 94.60% of candidates passed mathematics
  • 93.10% achieved pass grades in English Language

On examination malpractice, he reported a decline in incidents. A total of 435 candidates were involved in 516 malpractice cases, down from 349 candidates in 524 cases recorded in 2024.

He also announced that registration has begun for the 2025 November/December NBC/NTC and Advanced NBC/NTC (ANBC/ANTC) examinations. Interested candidates can register through the NABTEB portal or visit any NABTEB State or Zonal Office for registration guidelines.

Dr. Mohammed reiterated the critical role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in national development, stating:

“In today’s 21st-century world, the need for comprehensive TVET is more important than ever.”

Established by Decree No. 70 of 1993, NABTEB was created to assume control of technical and business examinations previously administered by foreign bodies like RSA, City & Guilds, and WAEC, ensuring Nigeria has a standardized, nationally relevant certification system.

The NBC/NTC examinations are a key component of Nigeria’s TVET framework, designed to provide learners with practical, employable skills across a wide range of trades and vocations.

For context, in the 2024 June/July exams, 67,751 candidates sat for the exams. Among them, 44,000 (65.34%) earned five credits, including English and Mathematics, while 62,235 (92.42%) obtained five credits or more, regardless of those two core subjects
