Alexander Isak opened his Liverpool account in style, helping the Reds to a 2-1 win over Southampton in the League Cup third round on Tuesday.
The Swedish striker, signed for a British record £125m from Newcastle, pounced on a loose pass to fire home in the 43rd minute after being set up by Federico Chiesa.
Isak, who turned 26 on Sunday, was subbed off at halftime as he continues to regain match fitness.
Southampton hit back through Shea Charles in the 76th minute after a defensive lapse from Wataru Endo, but Hugo Ekitike spared Liverpool from penalties, scoring the winner late on.
Meanwhile, Chelsea narrowly avoided an upset, defeating third-tier Lincoln 2-1 thanks to a second-half rally.
