The Kwara State Police Command, in collaboration with operatives from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and local vigilante groups, has intercepted a vehicle transporting tubers of yam, beneath which 127 bags of suspected cannabis were hidden.
This development was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the Kwara Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who described it as a breakthrough in the ongoing fight against crime and drug trafficking.
The successful operation took place on September 26, 2025, around 4:00 p.m. along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode road.
Two male suspects — Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both residents of Saliku in the Magama Local Government Area of Niger State — were arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.
In a related operation, security operatives also apprehended Mohammed Abubakar and Hussain, both from Tsaragi, as well as Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnap suspect. The trio is alleged to have been involved in the attack on Babanla community on August 8, 2025.
Following thorough investigations, all suspects will be charged in court.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, praised the operatives for their joint efforts and reiterated the Command’s determination to ensure public safety. He emphasized that criminal activities will not be tolerated in any part of the state.
