President Tinubu calls for peace, says “Hate Is Not an Option”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for the promotion of peace and unity across Nigeria, stressing that there is no room for hatred in the nation.

He made this statement on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State, during the burial ceremony of Nana Lydia Yilwatda, the mother of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing members of the clergy at the event, President Tinubu urged religious leaders to be champions of peace, describing it as essential for building national unity.

Speaking on religious tolerance, Tinubu shared a personal example, saying:

“Hate is never an option for us. I was born and raised as a Muslim and remain one, while my wife is a Christian pastor. She prays for me, and we have never had any conflict over religion. I’ve never tried to convert her.”

He continued by encouraging love and understanding among Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences:

“This is an opportunity to promote unity. Thank you to the clergy for your role in advocating peace. We must love one another. No one can change what God has ordained. We are all praying to the same God and are accountable to Him.”

Also present at the ceremony, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for attending the funeral and honoring the APC Chairman’s family.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, and several other senior APC officials.
