Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, has urged the Federal Government to formally declare war on terrorists and bandits destabilising the country. Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Irabor noted that Nigeria currently lacks the legal instruments to classify its ongoing fight against insecurity as an official war.
He argued that a formal declaration would enable the full deployment of state power and resources, creating clearer accountability frameworks and more efficient resourcing for counter-terrorism efforts.
Irabor emphasised that tackling insecurity requires more than military action, calling for a coordinated deployment of all elements of state power to achieve lasting results.
