FG disburses ₦300bn to over 8 million households under cash transfer scheme

The Federal Government has disbursed over ₦300 billion to 8.1 million households across Nigeria through its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program. This was revealed by Yusuf Sununu, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, at an event marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Abuja.

Sununu said the funds, disbursed under the Hope Agenda via the National Social Investment Agency, have helped improve health, education, and resilience in local communities.

Support for Flood Victims

  • The government also plans to give ₦6.3 billion in interest-free and collateral-free loans (₦300,000 each) to 21,000 Nigerians affected by floods to boost farming activities and mitigate the impact of flooding.

Empowering Displaced Persons

  • A new initiative, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, will support internally displaced persons (IDPs) by:
    • Allowing them to retain 30% of the crops they produce.
    • The government will buy 70% of the produce and pay the IDPs in cash, ensuring both food security and income generation.

Disaster Preparedness

Speaking earlier, Zubaida Umar, Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), highlighted that Nigeria continues to face rising disaster risks due to climate change, conflicts, pandemics, and technology-related threats.
