The national leadership of the Accord Party has dismissed claims that it has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections, insisting that its priority remains supporting Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship poll.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, clarified that no such endorsement exists and stressed that any official position would be publicly communicated. He noted that the party is currently focused on its internal processes, including preparations for primaries and the sale of nomination forms to aspirants.
The clarification follows controversy surrounding a billboard in Iwo, Osun State, which featured images of both Tinubu and Adeleke, sparking exchanges between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the governor’s camp.
Mgbudem defended Adeleke’s performance in office, expressing confidence in his chances at the polls and stating that the governor enjoys strong public support. He also noted that the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted Adeleke as its candidate for the upcoming election.
He further described Accord as a growing political force, attributing its expansion to Adeleke’s influence and the influx of prominent supporters into the party.
Addressing reports of internal divisions, Mgbudem denied any leadership crisis, dismissing claims by former presidential candidate Christopher Imumolen as baseless. He maintained that there is no faction within the party and no court order recognizing any alternative leadership.
The party reiterated its commitment to focusing on upcoming elections, stating that it would not be distracted by internal disputes or external controversies.
