The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over an alleged plan by security agencies to arrest its National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
The party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said it received what it described as credible information about plans to arrest the former Osun State governor in the days leading to the election.
The ADC warned that any such action could heighten political tension and undermine confidence in the electoral process.
The party urged the Federal Government and security agencies to exercise restraint, saying that if there were legitimate grounds to question Aregbesola, established legal procedures should be followed.
The ADC argued that an arrest shortly before the election could be perceived as an attempt to prevent Aregbesola from coordinating the party’s activities during the poll.
The party also expressed concerns over what it described as a wider pattern of intimidation and harassment of opposition figures ahead of the election.
It called on the Federal Government to avoid actions that could trigger unnecessary tension in Osun, stressing the need to respect democratic institutions and allow all political parties to participate freely in the election.
The ADC said Nigerians would be watching developments before, during and after the election, urging citizens to pay close attention to events surrounding the poll.
