The David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate what it described as the alleged forgery and unauthorised use of the commission’s documents by a rival faction.
The petition followed claims by the Nafiu Bala Gombe-led faction that it had successfully uploaded the names of its presidential candidate and other nominees to INEC’s candidate nomination portal.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the Mark-led faction dismissed the claim as false and misleading, insisting that only the leadership recognised by INEC has access to the commission’s nomination portal.
The party maintained that the nomination of its candidates was conducted in line with the Electoral Act and argued that INEC could not issue portal access or nomination codes to an unrecognised leadership.
According to the statement, the commission does not issue multiple nomination codes to the same political party, warning that doing so would create room for impostors to manipulate the nomination process.
The party challenged the rival faction to provide credible evidence of the alleged upload and questioned how a group not recognised by INEC could gain access to the portal.
The ADC also urged the electoral commission to investigate what it described as the apparent forgery and unauthorised use of documents bearing INEC’s identity, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in the country’s electoral process.
The party expressed confidence that INEC would investigate the matter and take appropriate steps to address what it called a blatant misrepresentation.
