The alleged Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has rejected plans by the House of Representatives ad hoc committee to question him at an undisclosed location while in police custody, insisting that any appearance before lawmakers should be conducted publicly.
Through his lawyer, Ademola Oyedokun, Adeyemi said he welcomed the committee’s investigation but argued that fairness required him to respond openly to allegations made against him during public hearings. He urged the committee to invoke its constitutional powers to compel the police to produce him before an open session of the House.
The lawyer maintained that while criminal allegations would be addressed before the Federal High Court and other investigative agencies, the committee’s inquiry into the establishment and operations of the PFIPC should remain transparent. He also challenged the legality of Adeyemi’s continued detention, claiming no court had ordered his remand.
The House committee had earlier announced plans to question Adeyemi privately to avoid interfering with ongoing investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, the EFCC and the ICPC. The panel is probing allegations of impersonation, forgery, financial misconduct and the unlawful use of government facilities linked to the controversial council.
