Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has approved the release of ₦1.3 billion for the payment of bursaries to eligible students across the state and increased the bursary award from ₦20,000 to ₦50,000 per beneficiary.
The development was announced in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.
According to the statement, the initiative is designed to reduce the financial burden on students, improve access to higher education, and promote human capital development in Akwa Ibom State.
The government described the approval as a major investment in the education and future of young people, reaffirming its commitment to supporting students through policies that encourage academic excellence and educational advancement.
The statement noted that the intervention includes the disbursement of ₦1.3 billion for bursary payments, the upward review of the bursary award to ₦50,000, and continued support for qualified students across the state.
The Akwa Ibom State Government added that the initiative reflects Governor Eno’s commitment to creating greater opportunities for youths by investing in education and skills development.
