Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has boosted her preparations for the Diamond League final after winning the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy.

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan has strengthened her preparations for the 2026 Diamond League Final after winning the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy.
The former world record holder clocked 12.56 seconds to take victory at the Centro Gabre Gabric in Brescia on Sunday, despite facing a strong 1.7 metres-per-second headwind that made the race more challenging. American Alaysha Johnson finished second in 12.62 seconds, while Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent placed third in 12.75 seconds.
Amusan’s victory came in a highly competitive field that also included former world record holder Kendra Harrison, who finished fifth in 12.94 seconds. The Nigerian had entered the meeting with a season-best of 12.28 seconds and a personal best of 12.12 seconds, according to the official entry list.
The Brescia triumph also represents a strong response from Amusan following the Zurich Diamond League, where American Masai Russell broke her four-year-old 100m hurdles world record. Russell ran 12.09 seconds to surpass Amusan’s 12.12-second mark set at the 2022 World Championships, while Amusan finished second in a season-best 12.23 seconds.
Amusan will now turn her attention to the 2026 Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium, scheduled for September 4–5, where she is expected to face another strong line-up of elite hurdlers. The Nigerian is a three-time Diamond League champion, having won the title in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and will be aiming to reclaim the crown.
