Five-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo is set to make history as the first Black African performer to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Beninese music icon will receive the 2,854th star on August 18, 2026, in the Recording category at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard, across from the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
Kidjo’s honour celebrates a remarkable career spanning more than four decades, nearly 20 albums, five Grammy Awards and a lasting influence on global music. She is renowned for blending West African traditions with jazz, funk, R&B and contemporary sounds.
Born in 1960 in what is now the Republic of Benin, Kidjo began her recording career with her debut album Pretty in 1981 before moving to Paris and later settling in New York.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with global stars including Burna Boy, Sting, Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel, John Legend and Bono.
Her latest album, HOPE!!, released in April 2026, features collaborations with Davido, Ayra Starr and Pharrell Williams, further highlighting her ability to connect generations and cultures through music.
The Hollywood honour marks another major milestone in Kidjo’s extraordinary journey and her enduring role in taking African music to audiences around the world.
