The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has opposed the planned warning strike by aviation unions over the alleged non-remittance of Ticket Service Charges (TSC), describing the proposed industrial action as misguided and based on misinformation.
AON maintained that it has an established regulatory relationship with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and no transactional relationship with the unions on the collection or remittance of the statutory levy. The association urged the unions to verify the facts with the appropriate authorities before taking any action that could disrupt flight operations and inconvenience the travelling public.
The dispute follows a seven-day ultimatum issued by aviation unions, including the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), demanding the settlement of outstanding TSC remittances. The unions warned that failure to comply could result in nationwide picketing, arguing that the alleged non-remittance has affected funding for aviation safety, regulatory oversight and workers’ welfare.
Reaffirming its commitment to safe and uninterrupted air travel, AON warned against any attempt to disrupt airline operations, stressing that anyone who compromises the safety and convenience of passengers would be held accountable. The association also assured travellers that it remains committed to engaging the NCAA through established channels to resolve regulatory issues.
