The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Accord Party of attacking its members during a campaign rally in Ilesha, Osun State, with at least five people reportedly hospitalised.
Speaking in Osogbo, the APC alleged that the Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Akerele, and operatives of the Amotekun Corps were behind the shooting, which reportedly also injured some passers-by.
The APC accused the Accord Party of deliberately instigating violence and urged security agencies to investigate the incident and prevent further attacks ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
However, at a separate press briefing, the Accord Party accused the APC of carrying out what it described as unlawful arrests of its members.
The rival allegations come amid rising political tensions in Osun ahead of the governorship election.
