The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has died after reportedly collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting in Iyara.
Solomon was said to have received medical attention at the venue before being taken to a hospital in Kabba, where he was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.
The meeting, convened by former Ijumu LGA Chairman Funsho Olumoko, was aimed at resolving internal disagreements within the party and strengthening unity among stakeholders ahead of future political engagements.
The follow-up meeting brought together political leaders, local government and ward executives, as well as women and youth leaders and government appointees representing the 15 wards in the local government.
Federal lawmakers representing the area, Senator Sunday Karimi and House of Representatives member Salman Idris, expressed sadness over Solomon’s death, describing him as a committed party member, grassroots mobiliser and bridge-builder.
The Kogi State Police Command had not commented on the incident as of the time of filing the report.
