The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced May 15 and 16 for its presidential primaries, while governorship primaries are scheduled for May 23, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The timetable aligns with the window provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which runs from April 23 to May 30 for political parties to conduct their primaries.
According to the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, aspirants for the presidential ticket will pay ₦100 million, covering ₦30 million for the expression of interest form and ₦70 million for the nomination form.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to be the sole aspirant, with his candidacy likely to be ratified through consensus or direct primaries in line with the Electoral Act 2026.
The schedule also outlines key dates for other positions:
- State House of Assembly primaries: May 21
- National Assembly primaries: May 28 (House of Representatives) and May 30 (Senate)
APC National Chairman, Netanwe Yilwatda, stated that the party prefers consensus but will adopt direct primaries where necessary.
Governorship aspirants are expected to pay ₦50 million, while senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly aspirants will pay ₦20 million, ₦10 million, and ₦6 million respectively.
APC spokesman, Felix Morka, said the early release of the timetable reflects the party’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and strengthening internal democracy.
The party also announced a 50 percent discount on nomination fees for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities.
