The internal primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have produced major upsets, with about 70 serving members of the National Assembly reportedly losing their return tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.
Among those affected are several senators, including Gbenga Daniel, Ned Nwoko, Saliu Mustapha, and others who either lost, withdrew, or stepped down during the primaries.
The report also noted that more than 50 members of the House of Representatives will not return, following disqualifications, defections, and defeats during the party’s screening and primaries process.
In Ondo State, chaos reportedly erupted during the senatorial primaries, where Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire narrowly escaped an attack after armed men disrupted voting at his polling unit in Akure. The incident led to panic, injuries, and suspension of voting activities in the area.
Several aspirants have rejected the outcomes of the primaries, alleging irregularities, intimidation, and imposition of candidates, while calling for the process to be reviewed.
Meanwhile, the APC National Secretariat has also raised concerns over the announcement of results at state level, insisting that final declarations must be made at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
The developments highlight growing tension within the ruling party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
