The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation over the composition of the party’s presidential ticket.
The confirmation came on Friday as the APC formally received the nomination forms of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the statutory deadline.
The nomination forms were presented to APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Kabir Masari, during a ceremony attended by members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, the National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council, the APC National Working Committee, state party chairmen and governorship candidates.
The submission comes ahead of INEC’s deadline for political parties to upload the nomination forms of their presidential and National Assembly candidates through its online nomination portal in accordance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
Speaking at the event, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, described the occasion as the formal presentation of the duly completed nomination forms of the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates. He urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general election.
Representing APC governors, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, reaffirmed the governors’ support for President Tinubu and the party’s leadership.
He expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in the next general election and called on members to mobilise support for all the party’s candidates.
Receiving the nomination forms, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, said the event reflected the confidence of party members in President Tinubu’s leadership.
He cited the administration’s student loan programme, infrastructure projects and agricultural interventions as key achievements that would form the basis of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 election.
Yilwatda also encouraged governors to compete in delivering the highest number of votes for the President, expressing optimism that the APC would secure another electoral victory.
Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, officially confirmed that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election.
The confirmation effectively puts an end to months of speculation over Shettima’s place on the APC presidential ticket.
