The Nigerian Army has arrested Private Mohammed Yusuf, a soldier declared wanted over his alleged involvement in the illegal supply of military accoutrements to terrorists and other criminal elements.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Muhammed Goni, the suspect was apprehended by troops of the 7 Provost Group at Jidari Bus Stop in Maiduguri while allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Cameroon.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf absconded from his unit on July 7, 2026, before going into hiding in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area with the assistance of an associate. He had been officially declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on July 23.
The Army said the arrest highlights the effectiveness of its intelligence-led operations and its commitment to ensuring accountability among personnel whose actions threaten military discipline and national security.
Private Yusuf remains in military custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of his alleged activities and identify any accomplices.
The Army also urged members of the public to continue providing credible intelligence to security agencies, reaffirming that there would be no safe haven for anyone aiding terrorism or other criminal activities.
