The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola, has resigned from his position.
His resignation, confirmed on Friday, marks the end of his tenure at the helm of the federal agency responsible for regulating and developing Nigeria’s inland waterways.
Details surrounding his departure remain limited as of press time, but sources within the agency said Bola formally notified the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy earlier this week.
During his time as MD/CEO, Bola oversaw several reforms aimed at improving safety, expanding commercial activities on Nigeria’s waterways, and strengthening regulatory enforcement. He also championed partnerships designed to boost inland transportation and reduce road congestion.
NIWA officials described his resignation as unexpected, noting that operations would continue uninterrupted pending the appointment of an acting managing director.
The Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy is expected to announce a replacement in the coming days.
