The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to resume its suspended nationwide strike if the Federal Government and state governments fail to urgently address outstanding issues affecting university lecturers.
The union is demanding the full implementation of the December 2025 agreement, payment of the remaining 3.5 months of withheld salaries, and the remittance of billions of naira deducted from lecturers’ salaries.
ASUU President, Christopher Piwuna, issued the warning following an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council at the University of Abuja.
The union said the failure to address these concerns could trigger industrial unrest across Nigeria’s public universities, warning that the suspended strike may be reactivated without further notice.
