Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has appointed Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo as his official spokesperson for the 2027 presidential election campaign.
The appointment was confirmed in a letter shared by Okonkwo on his X page on Thursday, following Atiku’s emergence as the ADC’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general election.
In the appointment letter, Atiku expressed confidence in Okonkwo’s competence, communication skills, integrity, political judgment, and ability to professionally represent his campaign and public positions.
“I am pleased to offer you an appointment as my Spokesperson for the 2027 General Elections in Nigeria, following my victory as the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” the letter stated.
Atiku further noted that he looks forward to Okonkwo’s contribution to the campaign and the advancement of democratic engagement in Nigeria.
Reacting to the appointment, Kenneth Okonkwo expressed gratitude to Atiku, describing the gesture as a testament to the former Vice President’s democratic leadership and willingness to embrace dialogue.
“I give God all the glory for being appointed by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar as his Spokesperson. I thank him for the immense confidence reposed in me,” Okonkwo said.
He added that discussions with Atiku and key stakeholders within the ADC had addressed concerns regarding the interests of the South-East within the framework of the Electoral Act 2026 and prevailing political realities.
Okonkwo also appreciated former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Ekene Onwuka, as well as his family, friends, and supporters for their encouragement, while requesting prayers for wisdom, courage, and strength as he takes on the new responsibility.
