Atletico Madrid have rejected a reported €150 million bid from rivals Real Madrid for Argentine forward Julian Alvarez.
Real Madrid confirmed in a statement that Atletico declined the offer after reviewing the proposal, despite the cordial relationship between both clubs.
Alvarez, a 2022 FIFA World Cup winner with Argentina, joined Atletico Madrid in 2024 from Manchester City and remains under contract until June 2030. The striker is believed to have a release clause of around €500 million.
The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, scoring eight goals in La Liga and 10 in the UEFA Champions League, where Atletico reached the semi-finals.
However, Atletico Madrid dismissed Real Madrid’s account of events, insisting the club neither studied nor considered any offer for the player.
In a sharp response on social media, Atletico stated that no proposal was entertained and reaffirmed its intention to keep the Argentine international.
The development comes amid reports that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is seeking a marquee signing ahead of the new season. The Spanish giants had also been linked with Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, but the German club has made it clear the French international is not for sale
