Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo has assumed office as the 10th substantive Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, promising an administration anchored on dialogue, participation and inclusiveness.
Badejo formally took over on Monday, September 21, 2026, following the completion of the five-year tenure of her predecessor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello. Members of the university community, including the management, Senate, staff, students and alumni, welcomed the new Vice Chancellor during activities marking her assumption of office.
The Professor of Counselling Psychology said her administration would promote an environment where members of the university community can participate in discussions and contribute to decisions concerning the institution. She said dialogue and collective engagement would be central to advancing the university’s objectives.
Badejo brings more than three decades of experience in teaching, research, institutional leadership, mentorship and educational innovation. Before her appointment, she held several academic and administrative responsibilities at LASU, including serving on the university’s Research Ethics Committee.
Her appointment was approved by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu earlier in September. She succeeds Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, whose tenure ended on September 19, 2026.
The new administration is expected to build on the university’s existing programmes in teaching, research, innovation and community service while pursuing new areas of institutional development. Members of the LASU community have expressed their readiness to support the new administration as it begins its tenure.
