Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya has been inaugurated as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), marking the beginning of a new administration for Nigeria’s foremost professional body of lawyers.
Badejo-Okusanya formally assumed office following her emergence as the winner of the NBA’s 2026 presidential election. Her inauguration brings to an end the tenure of the immediate past president and ushers in a new leadership team to steer the affairs of the association.
Her emergence is regarded as a significant moment in the history of the NBA, as she becomes the second woman to lead the association. Her election also reflects the growing participation and representation of women in leadership positions within Nigeria’s legal profession.
As NBA president, Badejo-Okusanya is expected to focus on issues affecting lawyers and the wider justice system, including professional welfare, access to justice, the rule of law, judicial independence and the strengthening of the legal profession.
She is also expected to work with members of the association to promote unity within the Bar and address concerns surrounding the practice of law in Nigeria. Her administration will be closely watched as it begins implementing its agenda and responding to emerging challenges in the legal sector.
The new NBA president takes office at a time when lawyers across the country continue to call for improved working conditions, stronger institutions and greater protection for the rule of law.
Badejo-Okusanya’s tenure is expected to set the tone for the association’s activities over the coming years, with members looking to the new leadership to strengthen the NBA’s role in defending constitutional democracy and promoting justice in Nigeria.
